Connection Cards from November 23rd...

On Sunday I spoke about prayer and meditation as the "road" to be about "our Father's business." I was very excited to read the many awesome responses to the Lord concerning prayer life in the cards this week. Here's a little smattering of some of the cards...

** Here's what impacted me. Sometimes I don't pick up my bible because I'm short on time. Your message made me see that even if I read only one scripture but then meditate on it, that's okay. Also, that I don't always have to pray with my words, that i can have a time of prayer and be silent and listen. What an encouragement! And a release from guilt!

** We haven't made it to church in a few weeks, but this morning you reminded us what an amazing family in Christ we have here at theMovement.

** Lord, I want to take my prayer life more serious. I want to set apart the time everyday. I want to slow down. Please help me.

** Lord, my desire is to know You more. I know I need to slow down in all areas of my life, including prayer, and I ask, God, for Your help. Help me, God, be still before You and meditate on Your word. Teach me how to pray.

** God, please help me and my family here what You want us to hear, not what we want to hear.

** I want to understand the power of prayer better. I want to learn how to meditate and not get distracted in my own thoughts. I want to learn to pray effectively and better. I struggle with hearing and seeing God's answers to prayer.

** Today was a very great day for learning for me. How to pray to God and pray with more meaning and deeper. I discovered today that I am repetitive and I need to slow down my prayers while speaking to God.

** Father, convict me to turn off the TV and spend with You. I want ears to hear you, You are my God, thank You, Lord Jesus.

Blaise Paschal in his 1642 "Pensees" said 'the sole cause of man's unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room.' Also, Jobey, do you know why the Dodgers are called the Dodgers?

[Would I really be a true blue Dodger fan if I didn't?! Give me a little credit!!! The Dodgers are in actuality named after their fans, who were called "trolley dodgers" because when they would go to home games at
Washington Park in Brooklyn (this was their home before Ebbet's Field was built in 1913) they would have to dodge the busy trolley intersections near the park. When people would find out you were going to a game at Washington Park, they would say things like, "oh, I didn't know you were a trolley dodger!" Eventually, the team took on the name of the fans and became "the Trolley Dodgers" for two years and then shortened it to "Dodgers."

Strange enough, when the Dodgers moved away from the hectic trolley-ridden intersections at Washington Park over across town to the newly built Ebbet's Field, they changed their name to the Robins. The fans' nickname for themselves never changed (despite the fact that they didn't have to dodge trolleys anymore), and because of this, fans never stopped calling the team "the Trolley Dodgers." However it took nearly 20 whole years for the ownership to finally give in to the popularity of the nickname, and they finally officially reverted back to being the Dodgers
(and of course they still kept it when they moved to the even more trolley-unpopulated street which is Elysian Park Road where the Dodgers call home at Chavez Ravine in Los Angeles). --Jobey]
