So it's official. Micah has successfully discipled Liam. Now, at age 19 months, Liam refers to anything blue as "Dodgers." It's incredible. As a dad, I am elated.
In even more amazing news, the other day, a friend of ours had a skirmish with someone else the other night and ended up getting a little hurt. Overhearing the conversation, Micah said "what happened to them?" We said "they got hurt, buddy." "How?" was the reply. "Someone hurt them." Somewhat perplexed but also distantly anxious, as if thinking "could it be true?", he hesitantly asks us, "was it Stormtroopers that hurt them?"
It's as if in this single moment his worst nightmare became a reality. He had been told for so long by his trusted parents that these Stormtroopers were make believe. And yet, now here he is faced with a situation in which he is trying to think of who would hurt our friend, and this forces him to deduce that there is indeed only one logical answer: it was the Stormtroopers.
And when he said it, half of it was in a way of disbelief (with a twist of fear) that they do in fact exist, and yet the other half was in a way of saying "I knew it all along. Those sneaky devils."
Oh if I could have captured it on video.
Another great thing happened a couple days later. I was taking Micah in my truck, which doesn't happen often, and he noticed that my stereo was still missing (it had gotten stolen over a year ago). He says, "dad, your music is still gone?" "Yes, son, it's still gone." "Did the Stormtroopers take your music?" "I'm not sure, Micah, I guess it's possible (I don't want to lie to him, it is in fact possible that a middle of the night car stereo thief could have been dressed as a Stormtrooper as his disguise)."
He looks at me and says, "Did they take it and put it in their space ship?"
I think we need to watch more Barney and less of the Empire Strikes Back.
