Dodgers' Spring Training...

So the family and I just got back from Arizona where we went to our very first Spring Training. For the past 60 years, the Dodgers have been in Florida since they were for so long an east coast team as the Brooklyn Dodgers. This year, they moved to Arizona to be closer to the fans and to have more opportunity to play teams pre-season that are in their division. It is a sad year to close some Dodger history, but as I look at the potential it brings my family and other avid Dodger fans, I'm already looking forward to next Spring Training to enjoy with my family.

If you know anything about Micah, you know that he is, like is dad, way into the Dodgers. Last season, he knew by heart I think it was about 11 players by name and face. To be able to go to the Dodgers' new state of the art compound at Camelback Ranch (and yes, it is definitely a compound, complete with 7 fields) and meet players and get autographs was a really awesome thing for me to be able to do for him as a dad.

Here's a little tip for you autograph hunters: bring a 4 year old decked out in the teams' gear. While standing in "autograph alley," we got signatures from Joe Torre (who Micah calls "Coach Joe"), one of our starting aces Clayton Kershaw, James Loney, and Blake Dewitt (a rookie last year, but a personal fave of Katie and myself).

Though it was the first day that Manny came to camp a day after he finally signed, we didn't get his autograph as he of course was swarmed by everyone, including security, reporters, and officials. He was signing as many autographs as he could, but it was near impossible for us. We did catch him taking batting practice from about 20 feet away, which was really cool. Micah loved that.

Here's a few pics from the week, I'll be posting more soon.

This is Blake Dewitt. Got a warm welcome from LA fans in his rookie year last year. He replaced Rafael Furcal when Raffy got hurt, but he proved to be a solid hitter and defender at 3rd base.

Clayton Kershaw handing Micah's ball back to him. This guy is 20 years old with a killer curve ball. Dare I say he has the potential to be the next Sandy Koufax?

Micah showing off his Dodger ball.

Joe Torre signing Micah's ball. Micah looked up at him after and said "Thanks, Coach Joe."

James Loney was on the other side of the path, so we told Micah to yell "James! James!" and "Loney!" Apparantly it worked.

We got front row, right on the Dodgers' dugout seats for only $25. We got to stare at the back of Mariano Duncan's and Joe Torre's noggen all game long. In between one inning, the Dodgers' catcher threw us a ball even. It was an awesome experience from that close to watch these guys play and hear they chatter. PS, in case you are wondering, that isn't really Manny Ramirez in the background there.
